I am talking to you
from the future
from a thousand miles away
on the phone
say what you like
in the air you see me
a million tiny dots

lightbulb shining through a window
thoughts in your head
shout that name
amplify it
make a copy
any number of ways

an English garden
rose bushes, brick wall
a stone couch
an herb garden
the sun’s rays
bright and warm
sea salt
makes the sky shine
flower’s breath
a trumpet call
of perfume, bees
hum in the air

birth of the locomotive
more powerful than
the dream of superman
metronome, measurement,
scale, our sight is chromed
exhaust systems, thank you
for your present, this is
the skin of our new era

animals always walk
like they’re wearing high heels

each time is like the other
borders alter, change
all things lead to this point
the future is fire

fish hook

everytime I turn on the TV
right through the eye

at the edge of the city

garbage has a purpose
it is a pun
it is a riddle
it is a symbol
like a crown
or a magician’s wand
garbage is a metonym
one thing that represents many
i don’t need to prove my point
your mind will
provide an example

who needs money?

glass does not get in the way
in the light you see through it
glass reminds me of language
sometimes, you forget it is there
behind the glass the scene always changing
night time, shadows chasing the light
across the street a new building rises
filled with windows; glass is still the same
looking at the glass i see a window
looking in the window i see myself
looking through the glass i see through it
what is behind it has not changed
i am always cutting my hands on glass
all these edges slice my flesh
mystery world under glass
behind the glass you can see through it
glass does not get in the way
glass is still the same

is what holds the words together

grass is unusual
it was invented by the Romans
unlike most people grass stays where it grows
if grass had gone to the moon it would be there today
grass looks luxurious
people put it wherever they can
a wedge of grass can split a sidewalk
city block, manhattan skyscraper
make a dog sick
step on grass; it deserves it

the greyhound runs
that’s the way we designed it

“remember you’re the one that loves me”
“only you know how to hurt me”
try to remember as you sing your blues

everyone told you
right from the start
“you won’t win,
don’t mess with her”

but you had to find out
the hard way
and she
ate you alive
