History of Genies
A genie, otherwise known as a djinn, or jinn, from the Arabic al-jinn is a quixotic creature. They can race the wind, turn a desert into lush farmland, blow a storm from their mouth, or stretch out on a cloud for a quiet nap.
It’s only when someone with evil intentions commands a jinn that bad things happen. But you only command a genie if you possess its bottle, the bottle it has been imprisoned in. Even then, you only command the genie if you release it from its bottle.
History
Shimmer of birch leaves against slap of sunlight
all flicker and history, tale of what is to be
what is told. Time between winter and summer,
reckoning and memory, counting and forgiving.
The more I drink
The more I drink, the more I love my family.
Until we drink too much, then we fight and cry.
That’s not a plea for understanding or absolution,
it’s a question of what makes those you love
