Deborah says, swimming in a lake is so beautiful.
I say, it’s the antithesis of a swimming pool.
Which leads me to ask, what’s the antithesis
of a swimming pool? Is it a woman’s womb, life
growing within, is it corn silk, leaves and cob
we don’t eat, perhaps, it’s the very question
of what is an antithesis? Can antithesis exist on its own
or does it demand something positive, something
real to be measured against? Like the concept
of our soul, which fights against the world,
fights against our very self, in order to prove
it exists. Surely by that measure,
the soul is antithetical.
Not unlike swimming in the clear waters of a pure lake
which is so unlike the idea of a swimming pool.
Pun-aphors
A pigeon flew at me and made me duck.
I was excited by the bow and arrow, but I no longer get that quiver.
I wanted to write an alphabet in a boat, but I floundered at sea.
I got a dog and wanted us to have pet Latin names — he was going to be Canus, but my friend said “You can’t be Sirius.”
