Imagine a time when blue sky
was unparalleled entertainment.
Canvases of old masters revelled
in panoramas of cloud and light
to demonstrate they could orchestrate
storm, blue sky, beams of light
like the greatest show on Earth.
There is a moment in summer
when the temperature is neither
hot nor cold, the breeze
neither strong nor weak,
a living creature that caresses
our ankles, ruffles our hair.
Light hangs in the air,
immaterial,
weightless,
instant,
everything in perfect balance
between what is to come,
and what has been.
Pun-aphors
A pigeon flew at me and made me duck.
I was excited by the bow and arrow, but I no longer get that quiver.
I wanted to write an alphabet in a boat, but I floundered at sea.
I got a dog and wanted us to have pet Latin names — he was going to be Canus, but my friend said “You can’t be Sirius.”
